As expected, Samsung announced two new budget-friendly Android smartphones, the Galaxy Star and Galaxy Pocket Neo.

We reported on both handsets several days ago, though we didn’t expect to see these devices being launched so soon.

With just several hours before Samsung goes live with Galaxy S IV, these two entry-level Android smartphones made an appearance at Samsung Forum in South Africa.

SammyHub reports that for the time being there are no details on availability and pricing options, but we suspect Galaxy Star and Galaxy Pocket Neo will be launched in emerging markets in the next few weeks.

The good news is both budget phones will ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. Hopefully, they will go on sale at a pretty low price, but that remains to be seen.

Samsung Galaxy Star sports a 3-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen display and a sub-par 2-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

No word on the processor, but it will come with 512MB. We suspect the smartphone will be equipped with an 850 MHz processor. We also know it supports EDGE connectivity and offers dual-SIM Always on capability.

On the inside, the Galaxy Star packs a 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery that has yet to be rated by the manufacturer, along with Bluetooth 4.0 and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The Galaxy Pocket Neo has similar features with a few exceptions. For example, the smartphone offers 3G connectivity and has been confirmed to come packed with an 850 MHz single-core processor.

The phone also sports a small 3-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen display, a 2-megapixel rear camera, Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-SIM Always on capability.

On the inside, Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo features 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Stay tuned for more updates on the phones’ availability and pricing options.
