March will bring a software update for it

South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has released its first device running under Google's Android operating system during the last year, the Samsung Galaxy i7500, and now some info on the software updates the handset will taste emerged. Although rumored a few times before, the Android 2.1 OS won't become available for this mobile phone, it seems, but Android 1.6 will certainly come to it in the near future.

Samsung Galaxy i7500, as most of you might already know, has been released with the Android 1.5 (Cupcake) platform on board, and hasn't been updated to a newer version ever since. However, it seems that the Android 1.6 update is set to arrive on the device as soon as next month, but this will be the newest flavor of the operating system that Galaxy will ever taste.

Interestingly enough, the South Korean handset vendor already committed to delivering the Android 2.0 and Android 2.1 software solutions to the Samsung Galaxy i5700, which is also known as the Samsung Galaxy Spica. When the company unveiled these plans, questions regarding the availability of the same update for the Samsung Galaxy i7500 also emerged, and it seems that they were answered now, even if the response is not the expected one.

The good news, however, is that some of the latest services that Google announced for its Android operating system and for the devices powered by it need the Android 1.6 (Donut) OS to be enjoyed, which means that Samsung Galaxy users will still have access to them. Of course, Google Goggles or Google Buzz are not the only new features that Android 2.1 users can benefit from, but they are still something more than nothing.

According to a recent post on the unwired, Samsung has already confirmed the fact that Galaxy i7500 will only enjoy the Android 1.6 update, and will receive it in March. As with other software updates for the company's devices, this one will have to be made via PC, as the over-the-air update is not available for the time being.
