As you might well know, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone the Galaxy S5 bundles water- and dust-resistant capabilities.

Furthermore, Samsung has been toughening up its Galaxy S5 smartphone, by bringing out a more rugged variant of the device, entitled the Galaxy S5 Active.

Now it appears, Samsung is planning to expand its rugged intentions onto its tablet line-up, because granted it’s at a loss in this department.

How do we know this? The Korean tech giant has applied for the “Samsung Galaxy Tab4 Active” trademark in Norway, SammyToday reports.

If you haven’t heard of the Galaxy Tab4, I can tell you it’s a lineup of budget tablets Samsung introduced not so long ago. Now it appears the Korean manufacturer wants to confer invincibility to these wallet-friendly products.

Rugged tablets aren't something unheard of. Aimed at the regular consumer, Sony’s Xperia Z line of tablets are IP55/57 certified.

However, if the Samsung Galaxy Tab4 Active turns out to be a reality, it would be the first tablet product of this kind Samsung actually pushes into the wild.

As a regular user, you might not have much use for a rugged tablet, unless you are extremely sloppy and tend to spill drinks over it all the time, but the feature might come in handy at some point in life. Let’s hope you won’t have to pay a lot of extra bucks for it.
