The battle of the slates has just started in the UK, as Vodafone introduced the Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G tablet. Samsung's device is the second tablet from the carrier's portfolio, after Apple's iPad.

Currently, only the 32GB version is available for purchase at Vodafone for as low as £299 with a two-year £27 per month plan.

Vodafone recommends the £27 plan to ‘regular users’, as this will only offer customers 2GB of included data and 1GB of BT Openzone Wi-Fi.

However, those with larger pockets have the option to purchase the tablet for £499 with cheaper £7.50 or £15 monthly plans.

Unfortunately, these plans only include either 500MB or 2GB of data, as well as 1GB of BT Openzone Wi-Fi usage for the latter.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G does not feature GSM voice communication capabilities, instead provides users with the option to make video calls using the 2-megapixel front facing camera over Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity.

The slate is equipped with a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor and an ULP GeForce graphics processing unit.

It runs Google's Android 3.1 Honeycomb with Samsung's TouchWiz UX user interface on a 10.1-inch PLS capacitive touchscreen with 16 millions colors support and 800 x 1280 pixel resolution.

The device is available in three versions with a different storage amount: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G features full support for HSDPA (21 Mbps) and HSUPA, as well as Adobe Flash 10.3.

It packs 1GB or RAM, but no microSD card slot for memory expansion has been included.

Those who want to take pictures from time to time, while on the move, can do so thank to the 3.15-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features both autofocus and LED flash.

Connectivity options are fully covered, as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G offers Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Blueototh 3.0 connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.
