The handset features a price tag of INR 4,990 ($89 / €69)

Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has officially announced the upcoming availability of its Galaxy Star Duos handset in India.

The new mobile phone features an MRP of INR 5,240 ($94 / €72), yet it is already available through various retailers in the country at only INR 4,990 ($89 / €69), including Infibeam.

The new device was destined to complement the already available lineup of Samsung smartphones in the country, providing users with handsets at all price points, including high-end products such as Galaxy S 4 and Galaxy Note II.

“In line with our commitment to providing Smartphones to a wider set of consumers, I am happy to announce the launch of Galaxy Star,” Vineet Taneja, country head, Samsung Mobile, said.

“[It is] a device that provides superior value to consumers based on its advanced features, intuitive performance and superior design features. We want more and more feature phone users to upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy Star.”

Furthermore, it seems that the handset vendor is also planning the release of some other smartphones in the country as soon as the next week. According to AndroidOS, the company might release its new Galaxy Mega devices in the country soon.

Samsung Galaxy Star Duos arrives on the market with a 3-inch QVGA touchscreen display, as well as with a 1GHz single-core Cortex A5 processor inside, paired with 512MB RAM.

At the same time, the new phone hits shelves with 4GB of internal memory, a 2-megapixel photo snapper on the back, Dual-SIM capabilities, FM radio, 2G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3.5mm audio jack, MicroUSB port, and a 1200 mAh battery.

Measuring 104.95 x 58.00 x 11.90mm and weighing 100.5 grams, the mobile phone runs under Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. It is available in black and white, and provides Vodafone customers with 250 MB of free data per month for 2 months.
