Offers enhanced functionality and options

Leading mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced today that it had updated its Galaxy Spica (I5700) smartphone to the latest version on Google's mobile operating system, namely Android 2.1. According to the company, the handset is now capable of offering a great deal of enhanced features to users, as well as a powerful experience. At the same time, the device can also offer seamless connectivity and fast access to Google mobile services, not to mention a great multimedia functionality.

“Lovers of the Galaxy Spica appreciated the ease with which they could access their contacts and personalise their experience – our upgraded handset offers all this and much more; a rich and rewarding and powerful mobile experience,” JK Shin, president and head of the Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, commented on the software update.

According to the company, the new Android 2.1 update for the Galaxy Spica is set to become available via the PC Studio 7, the software solution Samsung offers to its users for a fast update process via their Windows computers. At the same time, the company revealed that that new software update was set to become available for German users in March, and that it would be rolled-out gradually to other European markets, as well as to Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Asia, Africa and rest of the world.

The Galaxy Spica will offer users an enhanced experience by making a number of nine side-scrolling screens available for them. Users can personalize each of them as it suits them best, in accordance with various preferences and needs. Moreover, they will also enjoy a new augmented reality technology included on the device, as well as Samsung widgets, Visual bookmark and PC Sync support.

A series of improvements have been made in the multimedia and messaging areas too, it seems. The device sports now a number of multimedia features meant to turn it into a real entertainment device, including a media browser, camera upgrades for enhanced picture options and viewing functionality. Users will also find it much easier to attach files to MMS and email, and will also be able to easily add contacts to messages from the phonebook.
