Samsung Galaxy S6 owners, rejoice, as the South Korean company has just kicked off the rollout of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the long-awaited update that should fix some of the issues that have been reported by all those who own Lollipop-powered devices.

Some of you might still remember that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge has already been previewed, or at least an early build of the update.

Although Android 5.1.1 Lollipop has been around for quite some time, only a handful of smartphones have been upgraded to this version of the operating system.

Most of them are Nexus and Google Play Edition devices, but the overwhelming majority of Android OEMs have yet to start delivering Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to their smartphones and tablets.

Samsung made a ton of small changes of its own as well

Moving on to the actual changes included in this update, Google added only a few new features, but there should be a lot of bug fixes that address most of the issues brought by previous versions of the OS.

The dreaded “memory leak” problem should be fixed as well, though we can't confirm the information yet. However, SamMobile reports that performance has received an important boost, so your Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge should feel much faster now.

Samsung included some tweaks of their own, such as the option to remove the S Finder and Quick Connect buttons from the notifications shade. Some other smaller changes to user interface have been implemented as well.

Keep in mind that the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so it might take a while until it reaches all Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge devices.

If you own one of the two smartphones, then you can also upgrade to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via Smart Switch">Samsung Smart Switch. Have you captured the update yet? What other important changes have you notices? Let us know in the comments.
