When it rains, it pours, and when it comes to the yet unannounced Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone from Samsung, rumors keep on coming.

According to the latest reports from Korea, the handset will indeed arrive on shelves with a metallic case, just as previously rumored, though only a premium version of the phone will feature it.

In fact, it appears that Samsung will go in for a fusion of metal, plastic, and composite materials for the Galaxy S5 chassis, in an attempt to make the device more durable.

The case will also ensure that the handset is lightweight, and that it is able to offer great reception at all times.

A recent article on ETnews claims that Samsung has opted for stainless steel for the phone’s frame, while planning a battery case made of the aforementioned alloy.

However, it appears that Samsung also decided to reinforce the case with a diamond coating, ensuring that it will be resistant to corrosion. The process involves applying carbon nanoparticles on the metal at high temperatures, as PhoneArena notes.

This production technology is said to be used for aerospace applications in Russia, and it should provide Samsung with superiority when it comes to mass production and cost efficiency.

However, we should note that the idea seems similar to what LG and HTC were rumored a while ago to plan on including in upcoming flagship devices.

Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed on this as of now, though things should be brought to the spotlight in the not too distant future.

As reported earlier, a Samsung official has already confirmed that the Galaxy S5 flagship will be unveiled sometime in March or April, and that it will sport a design change when compared to the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 before it.

Most probably, said official was referring to the adoption of a metal case for the handset, though it remains to be seen if this was indeed the case. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
