South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has been long rumored to plan the launch of a new handset in the popular Galaxy S series, namely the Galaxy S5, and some more info on the yet unannounced handset is now available.

The new smartphone is now said to have been confirmed with a large screen capable of delivering a Quad HD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels), which would allow it to compete with devices coming from the competition.

Moreover, the handset is said to feature a 2900 mAh battery with fast charging capabilities. Apparently, the battery will sport new technology inside, allowing it to offer mode juice in a smaller package.

The most interesting new tidbit on the smartphone, however, comes from PhoneArena, which claims that the phone might hit shelves with a 20-megapixel camera on the back.

With Nokia and Sony Mobile already having smartphones with 20MP cameras available for purchase, it does not come too much as a surprise that Samsung is playing catch-up here.

Galaxy S5’s camera is also said to be capable of recording 4K videos, while being able to snap photos simultaneously with recording video.

However, it remains to be seen whether the rumor will pan out or not, especially considering that previous reports on the matter suggested that the handset would sport a 16MP camera instead.

According to PhoneArena, the upcoming mobile phone will also feature a top-of-the-line iris sensor, which falls in line with previous reports on the company planning an eye-scanner for it.

However, a recent article on Korea Herald claims that Samsung will actually opt in for a fingerprint sensor for the smartphone, and not for the iris scanner.

Apparently, the eye-scanning technology is seen as too immature at the moment, while the aforementioned fingerprint reader could be placed beneath the screen, so that one could use the display for scanning purposes.

Unfortunately, it appears that the previously rumored metal design for Galaxy S5 won’t pan out in the end. Instead, Samsung will go for the same plastic build present on other handsets in the lineup, though it will adopt a different design language for the smartphone.

No official confirmation on any of the above has been provided as of now, and we’ll have to wait for Samsung’s announcement to learn specifics on the phone. All in all, however, Galaxy S5 is shaping up as a great new flagship.
