Even though Apple’s second quarter results for 2014 were better than anyone expected, it appears that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 outsold the iPhone 5s on launch weekend.

According to GSMArena, the information comes via survey company iQmetrix, which has recently published an interesting statistic which confirms that Samsung’s flagship smartphone bested the Apple iPhone 5s in at least two countries: United States and Canada.

The cited survey company took into account sales of Apple’s iPhone 5s between September 20-22, 2013, and sales of Samsung Galaxy S5 between April 11-13, 2014.

The numbers resulted are shown as percentages and confirm that Samsung Galaxy S5 sales captured 25% market share in the United States and only 18% in Canada.

On the other hand the iPhone 5s only managed to reach 18% market share in the United States and 13% in Canada, during the same 3-day period.

iQmetrix also offers a more in-depth look at the predecessors of both flagship smartphones, so we can have a better picture of how Samsung and Apple fans think when deciding to get the newest high-end device launched by their favorite company.

According to the survey, between May and October 2013, the iPhone 5 sales dropped each month, which is a clear indication that Apple fans were anxiously waiting for the next iPhone to go on sale.

Surprisingly, this did not happen with the Samsung Galaxy S4. It appears that Samsung fans continued to purchase the previous flagship smartphone, which saw a considerable boost during the holiday shopping season. iQmetrix’s survey for Samsung Galaxy S4 includes a 6-month period between October 2013 and March 2014.

There’s also an interesting statistic that highlights the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch weekend sales in the United States by region.

Apparently, the South-Eastern region of the United States was in the lead with 41% market share, followed by North-Eastern region with 30%, North-Central region with 23% and Western region with 21%. You can find the detailed infographics below.

The Galaxy S5 sales seem to be off the charts if we are to believe the latest rumors and some of Samsung’s short statements coming from various officials.

In fact, Samsung doesn’t seem to have expected the Galaxy S5 to sell so well, and frankly neither did we, since there aren’t too many design changes compared to the previous model. Well, it looks like Samsung fans are more interested in other aspects than look, which is not a bad thing at all.
