14 DAY TRIAL // Rumors related to the Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo have been flying around ever since the fully-fledged Galaxy S5 was released last year. But months have passed by and nothing related to the Galaxy S5 Neo surfaced anymore.
What’s more, Samsung has even launched the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the meantime. So, has the time of the Galaxy S5 Neo passed? Not really, it seems.
Thanks to a report coming out of Sam Mobile, we can take a look at the full spec list of an updated Galaxy S5 Neo (compared to the 2014 version).
Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo to use new mid-range Exynos chip
According to the report, the smartphone will arrive into the wild as model number SM-G903F, equipped with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels).
Interestingly enough, the phone is powered by a new Exynos 7580 processor fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
The chipset has been spotted powering a TCL phablet and is comprised of a 64-bit octa-core CPU (probably ARM Cortex-A53) clocked at 1.6GHz and Mali-T720 GPU. Even if the Exynos 7580 digits are above those on the Exynos 7420, this chipset is a mid-range affair, not a high-end one.
Compared to the Snapdragon 801, or the Exynos 5422 processor inside the Galaxy S5, this constitutes a downgrade, but it’s not surprising, as the Galaxy S5 Neo is a downgraded version of the original.
Other claimed specs include an advanced 16MP main camera, just like in the case of the Galaxy S6, and a 5MP selfie-centric shooter. There’s also LTE-A connectivity and a 2,800 mAh battery.
Even the phone’s dimensions have leaked online, so we can tell you that you should expect the Galaxy S5 Neo to weigh 146 g / 0.32 lbs and measure 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm / 5.5 x 2.8 x 0.31 inches.
The Galaxy S5 Neo will not run Android 4.4 KitKat
The Galaxy S5 Neo will arrive with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, but it remains unclear which TouchWiz version we’re going to see on board. Hopefully, it will be the trimmed-down version that fuels the current Galaxy S6.
Samsung will also launch a dual SIM variant of the device, which will launch as model number SMI-G903FD. This variant will most likely go on sale on markets that welcome this setup, like India, Russia and China.
As always, keep in mind that these are unofficial specs, so at the moment we should take them with a big grain of salt. No word on the possible release date just yet.
