Samsung fans rejoice, as the company’s new flagship smartphone is about to go on sale in no less than 125 countries. According to the South Korean company, Galaxy S5 should be available for purchase in various countries in Europe, The Middle East, North America, Latin America and Asia, beginning April 11.

Customers will be able to choose to buy the Samsung Galaxy S5 in four color options at launch: charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold. Pricing options may vary depending on region and carrier and/or retailer.

This is the first Samsung flagship smartphone in the Galaxy S series that receives IP67 certification, which makes it dust and water resistant. It’s also the first to come with a fingerprint sensor for improved security, as well as electronic payments via PayPal.

Unlike the previous model, Galaxy S5 sports a slightly larger 5.1-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, 432ppi (pixel density) and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

The smartphone is powered by Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system out of the box with the latest version of TouchWiz UI (user interface) on top.

Hardware-wise, the Galaxy S5 is armed with a powerful 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

There will be two Galaxy S5 variants available on the market: 16GB and 32GB. But aside from that, users will be able to add more storage (up to 128GB) via microSD card slot.

Another strong point of the high-end smartphone is the 16-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and 4K video capture. There’s also a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by a slightly better battery than that included in the Galaxy S4, which packs a 2600 mAh battery. The former’s 2800 mAh battery should provide up to 390 hours of standby time or up to 21 hours of talk time.

“The refined design and technological innovation of our new Galaxy S5 and Samsung Gear devices are the direct result of Samsung listening carefully to what consumers wanted in the next generation of mobile technology.

We carefully crafted each device to offer a sophisticated, superior mobile experience that let consumers stay connected in their own way to focus on what really matters to them,” said JK Shin, CEO and president of IT and mobile communications division at Samsung Electronics.
