A new version of the Galaxy S4 smartphone (last year’s flagship handset from South Korean vendor Samsung) is now available for purchase in Europe, in the form of Samsung Galaxy S4 Value Edition.

The mobile phone has already made an appearance on shelves in the Netherlands, after being mentioned for the first time several months ago.

The new smartphone arrives on the market with model number i9515 attached to it and runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat platform right out of the box.

However, it seems that this is actually the only difference that users who purchase the smartphone will spot when compared to the original Galaxy S4.

Given that Galaxy S4 is already one year old, some might not find it as appealing as newer devices out there, but the handset is still a great smartphone, that’s for sure.

Moreover, the phone is cheaper when compared to Samsung’s latest flagship handset, the Galaxy S5, and should still be able to sell well, especially now that the Value Edition is out.

When it comes to hardware specifications, however, users will see that the new device model comes with the same capabilities as last year’s version did.

This includes a 5-inch Super AMOLED full HD touchscreen display, which hides a 1.9GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor beneath it.

Moreover, the smartphone sports 2GB of RAM inside, along with 16GB/32GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

On the back, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Value Edition sports a 13-megapixel camera with full HD video recording capabilities, complemented by a 2MP front camera for making video calls.

The phone comes with the same connectivity capabilities and sensors as the original device, and also sports a Li-Ion 2600mAh battery inside.

As mentioned above, the brand new Galaxy S4 Value Edition runs under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system right from the start, though it also features the TouchWiz UI loaded on top.

However, as UnwiredView notes, given the fact that the original Galaxy S4 is already receiving the Android 4.4.2 update (Samsung started deploying it several weeks ago), it actually makes little sense to release a Value Edition of the device.

At the moment, the smartphone is listed in the Netherlands with a price tag of €398 ($543) attached to it (in white and silver), unlocked and SIM-free, which makes it a bit more expensive than the original Galaxy S4 models. What remains to be seen is whether the phone will arrive in other markets out there as well.
