Samsung Galaxy S III was among the most popular smartphones in the Galaxy S series launched by the South Korean company. This is one of the reasons that the handset maker decided to launch additional models based on the Galaxy S III smartphone.

For example, the Galaxy S III mini and, more recently, Galaxy S III Value Edition are both based on the original Samsung Galaxy S III, but their popularity was not even close to that of the latter.

Still, it appears that Samsung is willing to persevere, so expect another Galaxy S III smartphone that should be packed with slight better hardware and possibly updated software.

Well, the new device is called Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim and has just been released in Brazil. Although Samsung has yet to issue an official statement on the smartphone, the Galaxy S3 Slim is now listed on the Samsung Brazil website, which suggests that the smartphone might go on sale pretty soon.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling whether the Galaxy S3 Slim will be launched in other countries and Samsung has yet to announce the handset’s retail price.

And the bad news keep coming, as the Slim tag is a bit misleading if we take into consideration the fact that the original Galaxy S III is only 8.6mm thin, while the new Galaxy S3 Slim is 9.7mm thick.

If we are to speculate on the phone’s name, then there’s a high chance that the Slim tag might highlight the fact that the smartphone is “slim” in terms of specs.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim comes with slightly lower hardware specs than the original model, which was launched nearly two years ago.

According to Samsung Brazil, the Galaxy S3 Slim is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and packs 1GB of RAM, alongside 8GB of internal memory.

The smartphone also includes microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), as well as a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording. A secondary VGA front-facing camera is included as well.

The Galaxy S3 Slim sports a 4.52-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (960 x 540 pixels) resolution.

The smartphone does not offer LTE support, but users will be able to enjoy blazing fast speeds via 3G HSPA+ (21Mbps). Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity features are included as well.

It is also worth mentioning that Samsung Galaxy S3 Slim is powered by a 2100 mAh battery and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.
