After numerous delays it looks like Romanian Samsung Galaxy S owners are finally received the long-awaited Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update.

According to Samsung Romania, the update is available via Samsung Kies desktop software and only for Vodafone and Orange Galaxy S devices.

However, the handset manufacturer promised that unbranded Galaxy S units, as well as Cosmote-branded smartphones will receive the Gingerbread upgrade later today.

Although Samsung and Google have already deployed the Gingerbread upgrade for Galaxy S smartphones throughout Europe several weeks ago, it seems that they have encountered a few issues with some carrier-branded variants of the device.

Some of the main enhancements of the new software include, but are not limited to, enhancements to the user interface, new Android Keyboard, with easy copy/paste feature, improved Power Management, Internet Calling support, and multiple camera management.

As reported, the Samsung Galaxy S is now being replaced by Samsung with the next-generation Galaxy S II, which is now available for purchase in several countries.

Although the phone's sales exceeded all expectations, it seems that the Korean handset manufacturer is still struggling to bring the device to as many countries as possible.

The Samsung Galaxy S was the first Android smartphone of the Galaxy family launched on the market, and is still considered one of the most popular in its range.

However, as the phone was retailed with Android 2.1 Eclair out-of-the-box, it made Samsung and Google's mission of delivering software updates extremely difficult.

As we already mentioned the update is not pushed OTA (over the air), so it's recommended to download and install the latest version of Samsung Kies desktop software and manually check for the update.

We will update the information as soon as we receive word about the availability of the Cosmote-branded, as well as unbranded Galaxy S units.
