Australian mobile phone users interested in the purchase of a new high-end device should soon have the possibility to opt for Samsung's latest flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Apparently, the South Korean handset vendor would plan on launching the device in Australia come May 26th, during an press event it already announced.

In the invites it sent out to the media, the company notes that it would hold “the biggest mobile phone launch for Samsung this year,” which clearly suggests that it would involve the release of Galaxy S II in the country.

Rumor has it that Samsung would plan on making the Galaxy S II available for purchase in Australia via all major wireless carriers in the country, including Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone.

For the time being, the rest of the necessary details on the phone's launch, including its pricing, are shrouded in mystery, but more should be unveiled as soon as May 26th.

The Samsung Galaxy S II was unveiled to the world during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in Spain, with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board.

The mobile phone comes with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display on board, and with a fast 1.21GHz Exynos application processor beneath it.

Initially, the handset was introduced with a 1GHz CPU inside, but Samsung bumped up the speed of the processor with an additional 200MHz, adding more power to it and enhancing the experience it can offer.

Other specs of the new mobile phone would include 1GB of RAM, along with 16 GB of internal memory, or a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The Galaxy S II arrives on shelves with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and with a front-facing camera for video calling.

HSPA+ connectivity was also included into the mix, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, or the usual set of sensors.
