Shortly after announcing the immediate availability of Android 4.0 ICS Premium Suite for Galaxy Note, Samsung released the long-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for Galaxy S II HD.

About a week ago, the South Korean handset manufacturer made the update available for its popular Galaxy S II smartphone, and people were wondering whether or not Samsung will deploy the update for the Galaxy S II HD version as well.

It appears that it only took Samsung 6 days to fulfill its promise, as Galaxy S II HD owners can now upgrade their devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform. For the time being, the update is only available in South Korea, but it will reach other regions as well.

Initially launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the latest update will bump the software to version Android 4.0 ICS and will bring several new features and improvements.

The Ice Cream Sandwich platform integrates Face recognition to unlock (Face Unlock) and Android Beam application. Data control management will be available as well, along with some usability improvements and applications multitasking.

Keep in mind that while the update will upgrade the phone book, messages, gallery and home screen layout, some information may be lost during the updating process, so it’s recommended to back up all personal info prior to flashing Android 4.0 ICS.

It is also worth mentioning that some applications that have been previously installed on the Galaxy S II HD might not work after they’re installed on the now ICS-powered smartphone due to incompatibility issues.

Last but not least, Galaxy S II HD owners should know that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for their device is only available via Samsung Kies 2.0 desktop software. The update is available for all three carriers: SK Telecom, LG U+ and KT.
