The upcoming Galaxy S II, Samsung's new flagship Android smartphone, is preparing to make a trip to Russia, as the manufacturer has just confirmed that the device will be launched in the country on May 18th.

However, those who were already waiting for the smartphone should know that this one won't come cheap at all.

Samsung Russia has put a price tag of 29,990 rubles (around $1060) on it, which makes it one of the most expensive in Europe.

The phone's high price can be explained by the fact that the Korean handset manufacturer has just announced that another one of its high-end Android smartphones will be available in Russia in May, the Galaxy S Plus.

Although no precise date has been disclosed for the Galaxy S Plus yet, the smartphone was price-tagged at 21,990 rubles (about $781 / €539).

Basically, potential customers will have to choose between a smartphone that sports the most powerful single-core mobile processor available on the market, the 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon (with Adreno 205 GPU), or the Galaxy S II, which comes with Samsung's own Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core CPU.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S II is powered by the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and features HSPA+ 21Mbps support for high speed data connections.

The latest TouchWiz UI 4.0 is also included, along with accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and gyroscope sensor.

The phone's large 4.3 inches Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution is protected by Gorilla Glass display.

Ever since it was officially introduced by Samsung at the 2011 Mobile World Congress, back in February, the Galaxy S II has been the target of numerous rumors regarding the phone's true release date.

Even though the phone was confirmed in several countries for April, the device was postponed for a few weeks for unknown reasons.

It remains to be seen if Samsung will be able to keep its promise this time around.
