Samsung Gulf says no update is coming in the region

In winter 2014, word surfaced that the three-year-old Samsung Galaxy Note II will surprisingly be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop. But nothing happened in that sense in the following months, so owners of the Galaxy Note II were getting quite impatient.

Not so long ago, someone asked Samsung Gulf (one of the company’s branches that operates in the Persian Gulf) about the timeline for the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for this particular device. And the answer wasn't a pleasant one: according to the Twitter account of the company, the phone was not set to get any more updates. Ever.

However, a few days later, the story changed completely. Samsung Spain stepped in saying that the second-gen Galaxy Note would be receiving the Android 5.0 update after all, as long as there weren’t any interferences with the updating process.

Subsequently, Samsung Denmark also corroborated the story, claiming that both the regular Samsung Galaxy Note II and Galaxy Note II 4G would get the update in the region.

It also said that the availability of the update for the handset would vary depending on market, meaning that users of the Galaxy Note II in some locations will be getting the Lollipop treatment.

Samsung Gulf strikes again

Well, this week, Samsung Gulf comes back with another piece of bad news. This time, the Twitter account reveals that no Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is coming (in the region).

Bear in mind that, just like in the case of the Galaxy Note II, the announcement applies only for this particular region and customers in the US or Europe have probably nothing to worry about, although it would be nice to get an official confirmation from one of Samsung’s subsidiaries.

For those of you who don’t remember, we’re going to take a minute to remind you that Samsung Galaxy Note 8 arrives with an 8-inch display with 800 x 1280 pixel resolution and bundles an Exynos 4412 SoC with a quad-core 1.6GHz CPU fitted with Mali-400 MP4 GPU on the inside.

The tablet takes advantage of 2GB of RAM, so there’s no reason Android 5.0 Lollipop won't work relatively smoothly on it.
