A new Google phone is expected to become official as soon as next week, none other than the long-rumored Nexus Prime, which is allegedly set to land on shelves under the name of Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

The new handset is expected to be unveiled during an “Unpacked Event” that Samsung and Google will jointly host on Monday, and is said to be on its way to the United States exclusively on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless.

For the time being, nothing has been officially confirmed on the matter, yet more and more rumors converged towards the same release details.

Moreover, we also had the chance to have a look at the full list of specifications for the new device, and things look pretty impressive.

However, we still don't know how the new mobile phone looks like, although a mock-up is now available for your viewing pleasure, courtesy of Pocketnow. Provided that the handset will actually look like that, we're sold.

As for the specs, those who might have missed our previous reports on this device will certainly like to know that it might arrive on shelves with a TI OMAP dual-core 1.2GHz processor, complemented by 1GB of RAM for increased performance capabilities.

Moreover, it is expected to pack a large 4.65-inch Super AMOLED screen that can deliver a 1280 x 720-pixel HD resolution, and to sport a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus and support for video recording in full HD.

There will also be a front facing camera for video calling, along with the usual set of connectivity options, and the full package of sensors. On top of that, the new device will also offer support for Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network.

Also, the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is set to arrive on shelves with the new Android platform release, Ice Cream Sandwich, also set to make an official debut next week.
