Earlier in January, yet another announced Samsung phone showed up, leaking in the wild as the Galaxy J1.

As it appears, good old Samsung is planning to make the J family a pretty extensive one by introducing additional models like the Galaxy J3, Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, devices which the company filled patents for not so long ago.

Samsung Galaxy J1 shows up on the company's official site

Well, this week Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy J1 handset, the first to arrive from the budding J family.

The Korean tech giant has been busy with several smartphone announcements during the last few months. For starters, it rolled out the all-metal clad Galaxy A series, which aims to replace the Galaxy Alpha and then the E series went live.

Now the J1 is here for us to behold in all of its glory. The device popped up on the Samsung Malaysia website, so we have to assume it’s the real deal.

Anyway, most of the specs of the J1 already leaked in the wild before, but the official listing contradicts some facts that were previously made available.

Several weeks ago, we told you that the J1 would be powered by a 64-bit quad-core Marvell processor, but the official info says the J1 has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor (of unknown origins).

Specs reveal a pretty low-end device

One thing’s certain. The Galaxy J1 remains a budget smartphone which arrives with 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixel resolution) display, dual SIM capabilities and Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

The handset takes advantage of a 5MP camera with LED flash on the back and a 2MP snapper located up in front. The selfie-centric device takes advantage of the so-called Palm Selfie function that is able to detect movement and snap photos via hand gestures.

The Galaxy J1 is presented to us with a 512MB of RAM, 4GB of RAM which, luckily, is extendable via microSD card. The 1850 mAh is said to be able to provide up to 10 hours of talk time with Ultra Power Saving mode also being made available.

Last but not least, the Galaxy J1 weighs 122 g / 0.26 lbs and its measurements are 129 x 68.2 x 8.9 mm / 5.07 x 2.6 x 0.35 inches.

The Samsung Malaysia page doesn't mention anything about pricing, but we assume the Galaxy J1 is pretty affordable.

However, online listings indicate that the device could arrive with a price between $162 / €144 and $130 / €85 (as seen at Hi-Tech Mail and Smart prix).
