Samsung launched the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 smartphone models back in January 2015, as cheaper alternatives to the A series, with Android 4.4.4 KitKat on board, and now reports online say they will be updated to Lollipop in the third quarter of this year.

The two phones sport a premium metal frame and the same 7.3 mm / 0.28 inch profile. They proved pretty popular with consumers, but sadly they arrived with KitKat out of the box, though back when they launched, Samsung said the Lollipop update would be out in a few months.

Six month later, we're yet to see the new build and customers are starting to get impatient. But luckily, a new report coming out of Sam Mobile sheds some light on the matter.

One of the biggest attraction points with the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy S7 was the smooth software experience, and the Lollipop update was eagerly expected by users in order to improve it. Now we can tell you that, according to insiders, the two phones will finally get the highly anticipated Lollipop treatment in the third quarter of the year.

Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 will get Lollipop, eventually

Google has just announced Android M, and by the time the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 receive Lollipop, the new version of Android will have already appeared on the horizon. Even so, given the fact that the two E models fall into the mid-range category, it makes sense that Samsung hasn’t rushed to push the new update.

As for Android M, Samsung won’t probably update the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7 to this particular build, but this is not a certainty. The Korean tech giant might end up surprising users after all.

Since the phones have been launched some time ago, you probably don’t remember much about their specs, so let us remind you what’s packed inside them.

The Galaxy E7 is the better one out of the two, arriving with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p and a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2GHz (of unknown origins).

Samsung also throws in 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 13MP camera on the back / 5MP snapper up in front, and a capable 2,950 mAh battery.

As for the E5, the phone comes with a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p, a quad-core chipset clocked at 1.2GHz, but only 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage.
