Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy Alpha and confirmed that the smartphone would be available for purchase in more than 150 countries beginning September.

The smartphone has been priced by several European retailers at no less than €600 ($805) outright, which means it will be available for similar amounts in most parts of the world.

Anyway, given the fact that Samsung did not specify in which country the Galaxy Alpha would go on sale, Australians were left in the dark on its availability.

The good news is that the folks over at AusDroid were able to confirm with Samsung Australia that Galaxy Alpha would be available in country this year.

Unfortunately, there were no details available regarding the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha in Australia, but the company did issue an official statement. Here is a short excerpt from the statement:

“Samsung Electronics Australia can confirm the globally announced Galaxy Alpha will be made available in Australia in 2014. We look forward to announcing local pricing and availability for this exciting new addition to the Galaxy smartphone range closer to local launch.”

Unlike the Galaxy S5 that’s wholly made of plastic, Samsung Galaxy Alpha features a metallic frame and a slightly different hardware configuration.

For example, the Galaxy Alpha has been confirmed to come equipped with an Exynos 5 Octa 5430 chipset that accommodates a 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex A15 processor and a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7 CPU.

The smartphone also packs a Mali-T628 MP6 graphics processing unit, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. The bad news is that the Galaxy Alpha does not come with microSD card slot for memory expansion, so you will only be left with around 24GB of storage.

Aside from these hardware differences, it’s also worth mentioning that Samsung Galaxy Alpha sports a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display supporting HD (720p) resolution, unlike the Galaxy S5 which boasts a much better 5-inch full HD display.

On the back, the Galaxy Alpha is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording, while in the front there’s a secondary 2.1-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

The smartphone is powered by a 1860 mAh battery and offers multiple connectivity options, including LTE Cat.6 (300Mbps download / 50Mbps upload), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, microUSB and NFC (Near Field Communication).

In the same piece of news, Samsung Galaxy Alpha has been confirmed to arrive in Australia in five different colors: Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver and Scuba Blue.
