Announced last week, Samsung Galaxy 550 has just hit shelves at regional carrier SaskTel for as low as $29.99 with a new three-year agreement.

Those who find the phone attractive enough but want to avoid being tied by a long-term contract must pay $249.99 upfront to acquire the Galaxy 550 off-contract.

In addition, SaskTel offers its customers two more price options for the Galaxy 550: $99.99 with a new two-year contract or $199.99 with a new one-year contract.

As the carrier states, customers who decide to go for Galaxy 550 should be aware of the fact that a $25.00 one-time activation fee applies to all-new cellular activations and appears on their first SaskTel bill.

Design-wise, Samsung Galaxy 550 is a sleek, compact and pocket-friendly smartphone with several interesting features inside.

Samsung Galaxy 550 was announced one year ago and launched on the market in August 2010.

However, Canadian customers had the option to purchase the Galaxy 550 only in November 2010, as the smartphone was delayed twice for unknown reasons.

SaskTel is not the only carrier that picked the Galaxy 550, as Virgin Mobile is now offering the handset for free.

When it comes to hardware, Samsung Galaxy 550 can be easily tagged as an entry-level Android-based smartphone.

The device is equipped with a low-performance single core processor clocked at 600MHz and runs Google's Android 2.1 (Eclair) operating system.

Furthermore, Galaxy 550 comes with a rather small 2.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixels resolution.

It also sports a mediocre 2.0-megapixel camera, 90 MB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB, 1GB memory card included).

On related news, SaskTel has already confirmed that it will launch Samsung's Android flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S II, but has yet to announce the phone's exact release date.
