LetsGoDigital previewed the Samsung GX-1S SLR camera. Last month Samsung has entered the DSLR market by introducing the Samsung GX-1S, a six Megapixel model featuring world renowned Schneider optics and a high- resolution 2.5-inch LCD. The interchangeable lens DSLR was developed jointly with partner Pentax Corporation. Through this partnership, and the GX-1S introduction, Samsung have an opportunity to make an immediate impact in the DSLR space and dramatically expand the range of options available to consumers under the Samsung Brand.

LetsGoDigital added: "Although we have only had this pre-production sample in the office for a short period of time we can still give you an extensive preview of the first Samsung digital SLR camera. Those of you who are familiar with the Pentax *ist DS2 digital SLR camera will notice that the specifications of the two models are 99.9% identical. The Samsung GX 1S features an effective 6.1 Megapixel resolution, incorporates an 11-point AF sensor, includes a high-speed consecutive shooting mode of up to 2.8 frames per second, up to eight frames in JPEG shooting and up to five frames per second when shooting in Raw Mode."

For outstanding image quality, the Samsung 1S DSLR features high-precision, 16 segment multi-pattern metering to assure accurate light measurement in addition to center-weighted metering and spot metering for more advanced applications. To provide accurate focusing on a variety of subjects the Samsung 1S incorporates a 11-point AF sensor and a choice of AF single or AF-continuous for a wide variety of options. For further image control, users can chose from several White Balance settings and a variety of automatic shooting modes.

LetsGoDigital concludes: "The pre-production status of the Samsung GX-1S gives us the opportunity to provide you with some more inside information. The Samsung GX-1S is easy to handle, its Custom settings feature is a pleasure to have on board and will be welcomed by the amateur user. The available features will give the amateur photographer plenty of opportunities to capture the moment. Compared to its competition the specifications of the Samsung GX-1S are trailing a little bit behind, but I am sure that if Samsung is really serious about getting the tough-to-get market share, they will already be working on their own digital SLR system and will introduce their own made dSLR later this year. PMA is obviously too early, but the Photokina 2006 (September 26 - October 1, 2006) will definitely be interesting?"
