The Galaxy S II has finally reached U.S. Cellular's airwaves. In fact, the smartphone has yet to hit shelves, but the carrier officially announced that it will add the device to its portfolio.

Samsung Galaxy S II will be available at some point for as low as $229.99 (175 EUR) after a $100 (75 EUR) mail-in rebate. Obviously, the deal requires customers sign up for a data plan and commit to a new two-year agreement. Activation fee may apply for new customers.

The smartphone will be delivered with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, but Samsung Galaxy S II has already been confirmed for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade in early March.

However, there's no telling when exactly U.S. Cellular will be able to deploy the long-awaited update to its own variant of Galaxy S II.

The Galaxy S II is equipped with a 1.2 GHz dual-core Exyno processor manufactured by Samsung, which is complemented by a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit. Most Android enthusiasts prefer Samsung's Exynos over Texas Instrument's CPU embedded in another Galaxy S II model.

It boasts a stunning 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display, which, sadly, supports only 480 x 800 pixels resolution. There's also an enhanced 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel camera for video calls.

On the inside, U.S. Cellular's Galaxy S II packs 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The Galaxy S II is the ultimate phone for people looking to simplify and organize their lives. The features combined with U.S. Cellular’s unique benefits, like our Battery Swap, make it the go-to device for customers who depend on their smartphone to keep up with their busy schedules,” said Edward Perez, vice president of sales and marketing operations for U.S. Cellular.
