Samsung did say it was making a 40-inch tablet-like multi-touch surface, a table of sorts, and, sure enough, here it is: the SUR40.

Also dubbed Surface 2, it is powered by a dual-core AMD Athlon X2 2.9 GHz CPU and an AMD HD 6750M GPU.

Those, along with 4 GB of RAM and a HDD of 320 GB, lie beneath a 40-inch multi-touchy display with Full HD support (resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels).

Fingers, blobs and even other objects are recognized by the panel.

Samsung and Microsoft want the SUR40 to be used by banks or the retail environment, where it can facilitate consumer interaction and such.

Early next year, 2012, is when shipments start. The price wasn't mentioned, but interested buyers can get in touch with Samsung directly.

The contact page is here, along with the rest of the product information.
