Samsung is one of those companies known for its wide range of products, and it looks like its storage solution portfolio is what has expanded this once, with the addition of a bunch of high-speed, external HDDs.

External hard disk drives can be said to fit into two categories, depending on their form factors at least.

One is that of small, compact, 2.5-inch or even 1.8-inch units, built for portability, while the other is composed of larger units, meant to stay on the desk and act as backup solutions or auxiliary means of storing large files.

Samsung added products of both type when it issued its most recent press release.

The M3 Station is the desktop solution, while the portable ones bear the names of M2 Portable and C2 Portable.

M3 has a wave-like matte finish, rounded corners, a LED light (indicates operation) and two color options, those being Brown black and Noble Beige.

Performance-wise, its capacities are of 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB, while both the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 interface standards are supported.

Meanwhile, the M2 portable drives have the same wave finish but the smaller, 2.5-inch form factor, along with two extra color options (Mist Gray and Clay Orange).

As for the C2, they have the same form factor but a high-gloss cover with Rub Red or Mystic Grey colors.

The C2 and M2 have up to 1 TB of storage space and can create secure virtual drives and perform disk formatting, hardware evaluation and data backup via the Samsung Drive Manager software included in the product bundle.

Needless to say, these two lines also have support for the SuperSpeed USB 3.0, 5 Gbps connectivity standard.

This week is when the M2 portable should start selling, while the C2 Portable and the 3.5-inch M3 Station won't be up for sale before May.
