Epic 4G's successor has been spotted in the wild more than six months ago, along with two BlackBerry 7 smartphones, the Bold 9930 and Torch 9850.

However, while both BlackBerry smartphones have already made their debut at Sprint, Samsung Epic 2 has yet to be introduced in the United States.

When everyone thought that Samsung has given up releasing this Android device in the United States, the folks over at ACSyndicate have just found out that the Samsung Epic 2 is on its way to shelves.

Samsung Epic 2 has just made its appearance in the Cellebrite system. The phone is listed as “Samsung SPH-D705 Epic 2 (Android),” which means that Samsung has yet to decided whether or not the smartphone will be launched via Sprint, or a smaller carrier will offer this one instead.

By today standards, the Epic 2 is a mid-range Android smartphone, which might be the reason for Sprint not wanting to carry this one anymore. However, it's possible that a smaller US-based operator will introduce Samsung Epic 4G's successor in the following weeks.

According to the latest hearsay, Samsung Epic 4G 2 has a 4-inch qHD capacitive touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel camera and full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. In addition, the Epic 2 should be equipped with a 1.2 GHz single core processor, as well Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

Although the smartphone has been spotted in the CelleBrite system that doesn't necessarily means the Epic 4G 2 will make it to the market.

Still, this is an indication that there's a high chance Android fans who prefer QWERTY slider smartphones would be able to purchase this one sometime in the near future.

The original Epic 4G was launched at Sprint and Verizon last year, so one of these carriers might want to debut its successor within the next few weeks.
