14 DAY TRIAL // Staying true to its leading position in the mobile handset industry, Samsung has recently unveiled a new high-end touchscreen phone, named Samsung D980. This seems to be a slightly changed version of the F480 TouchWiz, which is already on sale across Europe and Asia, and comes shortly after the unveiling of i8510, the Symbian smartphone that packs an 8 Megapixel camera.
The major difference between the D980 and F480 is that the first handset comes with dual-SIM technology, allowing you to use two SIM cards at the same time. Also, the D980 only features tri-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, unlike the F480 which has 3G connectivity too. These aspects aside, the two phones are quite similar, when it comes to both their design and their capabilities.
Among the features included in the D980, we have: a 2.6 inch TFT touchscreen display with 260K colors and 240 x 320 pixels, a 5 Megapixel camera with flash, auto focus and video recording, Bluetooth 2.0, Music and Video players, FM radio, Web and email capabilities, Instant Messaging, USB, expandable memory and so on.
All in all, Samsung D980 is a quite nice handset. Its support for two SIM cards can make it really attractive for business users, while the high-end photo camera can surely lure mobile users who are interested in multimedia-oriented phones.
The new Samsung handset will be first available in China, via China Mobile, the largest mobile carrier in the world (more than 392 million users), under the name of Samsung D988. In Europe, the phone will be on sale as Samsung D980 DuoS, but there are no details about when and where exactly. The retail price of D980 /D988 is another unknown detail - it will be a high one anyway.
