The M6, M2 and F1 Raid coming your way

Leading manufacturer of consumer electronics Samsung has recently confirmed the rumors according to which the Spinpoint M6 and M2 HDDs will go into mass production. In doing so, the company hopes that its M2 model will be featured in a large of number of desktop replacement and gaming laptops.

According to Samsung, the Spinpoint M2 hard drive is "one of the world's fastest laptop hard drives." Offering a maximum of 250GB of storage space in a 2.5-inch form factor and a maximum platter rotational speed of 7200 RPM, Samsung's M2 comes off as reliable for a laptop storage solution. "The MP2 has speed, features and capacity similar to a 3.5in hard drive and is perfect for users who require a smaller form factor with advanced data storage needs." said Hubbert Smith, Director of Storage, Samsung Semiconductor.

With the Spinpoint M6 model, users will benefit form a high-capacity 500GB HDD, which features a 5400 RPM spindle speed, an 8MB cache and a 3.0Gbps SATA interface. This model is designed to provide a high-capacity alternative to all the latest releases in the portable computer market. "The Spinpoint M6 is ideal for notebook power users who require vast amounts of storage space for their data, video and music files."

Samsung also confirmed the entering into mass production of the new Spinpoint F1 RAID Class SATA 1TB capacity HD, which is believed to become available soon. This drive features a 334GB/platter capacity and has a 7200RPM spindle speed, with no less than 32MB of cache memory. The F1 also makes use of the company's rotational vibration controller and optimized system-on-chip (SOC), which are set to lower the power consumption.

There is no word yet on a possible date when the drives will hit store shelves. The same applies to the estimated price tag that will come attached to them.
