Samsung hasn’t given us a release date for the Chromebook 2 in the US & Canada

Earlier this month, Samsung officially announced the Chromebook 2 as being a reality. Compared to the previous generation, the new models are now powered by an Octa-core Exynos CPU and there’s a 13.3-inch model with a full HD display to choose from, too. But apart from that, there’s a few other subtle details.

Anyway, Samsung Canada has now set up the dedicated Chromebook 2 product page which is available with complete specifications, although the US counterpart is still lagging behind, still showing the older model.

What’s strange is Sammy’s Chromebook 2 doesn't support Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. networks right off the bat and the Korean tech giant is going to push a software update in order to add that functionality to the lappy.

Most of us would probably consider the feat to be a default, especially since most Chromebooks don’t carry an Ethernet port.

Anyway, the two models that showed up on the Canadian Samsung website (both 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch) will supposedly arrive with 4GB of RAM. That will, of course, translate into a bigger price-tag, but the good news is Samsung plans to roll out a 2GB variant too.

Given the fact the product page has been set up, we can expect the launch of the Chromebook 2 for US and Canada to arrive pretty soon. We already have information that the product will arrive in May in the UK, but the American counterparts might get it even sooner.

So on top of the black/white Chromebook 2 with 11.6-inch display and 13.3-inch gray model, Samsung is gearing up to have 2 other new options coming, in the form of a white/black Chromebook 2 with 2GB of RAM instead of the 4GB. They will come with 11.6-inch screens.

As you probably know by now, all the Chromebooks will come boasting the same faux-leather design Sammy has been infatuated with since the launch of the Galaxy Note 3 smartphone.

The 11.6-inch Chromebook 2 with 4GB of RAM should ship out to customers for $319.99 / €233. Therefore, the 2GB of RAM versions will probably arrive with a cheaper price-tag, but Samsung has made no official mention of them just yet.

The new Chromebooks are powered by the Exynos 5 Octa platform that comes bundled with an eight-core ARM big.LITTLE processor build especially to better handle multiple tasking in high-end mobile devices.

Samsung has made a point in highlighting the performance boost conferred by the addition of this new chip architecture and the tech giant claims the new processors will deliver up to 125% increase in computing and two times the multimedia performance.

And with the new product page being set up, the launch of the new models appears immanent.
