After a leak has detailed most of the hardware specs of Samsung's upcoming Chrome OS notebook, it now seems like the company is getting ready to make official the device later this week, on May 11 to be more precise.

At the end of last week, the PCMag publication received an invitation to a Samsung event, which the Korean company is touting as a “night of firsts.”

While the invitation doesn't reveal any more details regarding the products that are going to be announced, both Acer and Samsung have been confirmed as launch partners for Chrome OS by Google.

Furthermore, at the beginning of December 2010, Google stated that these netbooks are expected to make their appearance in mid-2011.

Another reason why PCMag believes that Samsung will announce a Chrome OS netbook has also something to do with timing, as the event was programmed right after the conclusion of the annual Google I/O developer conference.

From what we do know until now, Samsung's Chrome OS creation is powered by an Intel Atom N550 dual-core CPU that runs at 1.5GHz and also features integrated graphics.

This will be paired together with 2GB of RAM memory and the netbook packs a Samsung-built SSD of an unknown capacity.

Other features include a built-in webcam, Wi-Fi and WWAN connectivity, and a 1280x800 resolution display.

Samsung's netbook will only be the second such product to run the Chrome OS operating system, after Google's own Cr-48 system that was released in December of 2010.

However, this was discontinued in March of this year as Google has sold out the devices and it announced that it won't be making any more from that point on.

No details regarding the price of Samsung's upcoming netbook have been announced until now.
