As has become rather common, official notices or unofficial reports and rumors are running rampant on the IT market, with one of the latest of them being what one may call a potential rival to the ASUS Eee Pad Slider.

While some may have thought that ASUS had called dibs on the so-called slider tablet design, this assumptions appears to have been proven quite false.

Granted, the Samsung Sliding Tablet PX 7 Series is not particularly new, considering that its first unveiling was done back in January, 2011.

Still, it is only now that the company actually got around to giving an update on it, or so a certain report would have us believe.

According to recent rumors, the outfit is, at long last, almost ready to start shipping this product which is unlike most slates currently known.

Instead of the ARM architecture and the Android operating system, the slate uses Intel's new Oak Trail Atom CPU and runs the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

The chip in question is known as Atom Z670 (it was released last month, April 2011) and has a frequency of 1.5 GHz.

In this case, 2 GB of RAM (random access memory) complement the CPU, while an SSD provides 32 GB of storage space.

These, along with 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, HDMI, USB, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and 3G (probably) are packed inside a 10-inch frame and, along with the 10-inch HD screen (1,366 x 768 pixels), kept running by a 6-cell battery for up to 9 hours.

The Samsung Sliding PC 7 Series tablet weighs about 1 kg and, with the official name of Series 7 XE700Z0A-A01US Tablet PC, has a price of $649. No word exactly on when shipments will start, but it shouldn't be long.
