It runs Android 4.0 but does not have the HD screen people were hoping for

That Samsung would eventually launch a new incarnation of the Galaxy Tab was obvious, but there doesn't seem to be anything particularly amazing about the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1).

After all the legal trouble that the Galaxy Tab suffered on account of Apple, Samsung may have decided that the tablet is already strong enough as it is.

After all, there has to be some reason for the largely bland hardware specifications of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Even if there are a lot of value-added features and services, the unnamed dual-core CPU of 1 GHz is far from jaw-dropping.

Likewise, the TFT PLS display of 10.1 inches, with its native resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels, fails to stand out overmuch. For comparison, the Galaxy Note 10.1 at least has the S-Pen.

Furthermore, while the camera on the back is a nice enough 3 megapixels model, the one on the front is a downgrade from a 2-megapixel to a regular VGA camera / 0.3 megapixels.

That said, Samsung may be gunning for a lower price point, which means that these changes could just be concessions.

Unfortunately, there are no pricing or availability details yet, so we cannot tell for sure.

For those who want to learn what else this thing has to offer, there is a sizable list of so-called value-added features, like Samsung ChatON mobile communication services, Samsung S Suggest (App recommendation service), Samsung Hub, Samsung Apps, the Polaris document editor, Google Android Market, various other Google mobile Services, etc.

All these, and more, are run by the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

Finally, since this would not be a mobile tablet without decent connectivity, the company integrated Bluetooth technology v 3.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi Direct.

As for everything else, there is a microSD card slot (up to 32 GB), built-in NAND Flash storage (16/32 GB), 1GB of RAM, an accelerometer, digital compass, a light sensor and GPS. Go here for the all the info.
