It looks like MetroPCS grabbed the Samsung Admire before the smartphone could go live at Cellular South, as rumors suggested last week.

However, this does not mean that Cellular South won't be offering the Admire sometime in the near future.

Aimed at smartphone users or for budget-minded students looking for an advanced phone with all the features, apps, entertainment and organizational tools they need, Samsung Admire makes its debut just in time for 'back to school'.

Samsung Admire is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform and comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

The phone will be available in different color schemes including, red and gray.

The Samsung Admire is the latest device in our growing Android smartphone lineup and delivers the right set of features at the right price for students as they head back to school. And the best part is that customers will continue to save money year-round with MetroPCS' affordable, unlimited service plans,” said Tom Keys, president and COO, MetroPCS.

The handset is equipped with a single core 800 Mhz processor comes with an array of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack with microphone, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

The amount of memory that the phone embeds is unknown for the moment, but the carrier mentions that the Admire comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

While the suggested retail price has yet to be confirmed, MetroPCS is offering the Samsung Admire for free with its no-annual-contract rate plans starting at $40 per month with unlimited talk, text and Web access.

As part of the back to school promo, MetroPCS will offer the Huawei M835, Samsung Freeform III, Kyocera Torino, Samsung Galaxy Indulge and LG Optimus M at special prices.

In addition, through September 30, MetroPCS offers a BOGO promotion, allowing new customers who buy one phone to get one free.
