Carbon Nanotubes are the future of LCDs

Samsung has recently announced that they will integrate carbon nanotube technology into future LCDs, starting with a new 15 inch LCD model already developed at the Samsung Institute of Technology which uses a complex array of nanotubes. If you're somehow wondering what the use of carbon nanotubes is, in this case it's actually about light sources, since the nanotubes will actually be used as a replacement for more conventional light sources such as LEDs.

Moreover, the mixture of nanotubes and LCDs will probably lower the cost of LCD screens in the future, since they have also been used in the manufacturing of cathode-ray tubes, but without much success, as the final products came out quite expensive.

As for LCDs, the ones using nanotubes actually turn out cheaper, due to the fact that the light source is some 30-50% cheaper than a conventional one. Samsung also stated that the use of carbon nanotubes will improve picture quality and also reduce power consumption while generally achieving response times of less than 4 seconds.
