The ML - 2851ND laser printer

Samsung has rolled out some pretty hot printers this year, some of them having some special (read out of this world) designs. Unfortunately, though, the newly-announced ML - 2851ND is not one of them, but rather a "workhorse" model, designed to provide high-capacity, yet low-cost printing for SOHO users.

The ML - 2851ND is capable of 1200 x 1200 dpi effective output, a first-page-out speed of less than 8.5 seconds, a 32-MB memory expandable to 160MB, and printing capabilities of 30 pages per minute. With a height just under 8.5 inches, this printer is both compact and powerful without compromising productivity.

The fact that it's targeting mostly the SOHO segment is also visible from the fact that the ML - 2851ND provides automatic two-sided duplexing, which saves money and time, and also incorporates Samsung's TonerSave mode, a feature that can increase the cartridge life nearly 40 percent, therefore reducing printing costs.

The device can be used either as a network printer (via the Ethernet 10/100 Base TX interface) or a personal one (USB 2.0) and supports PostScript3, PCL6, SPL, IBM ProPrinter, EPSON emulation. Furthermore, it's compatible with the most common operating systems on the market, including here Windows 2000/XP(32/64bits)/Vista(32/64bits)/2003 Server(32/64bits), various Linux OS distributions, as well as the Mac OS 8.6-9.2, 10.1-10.4.

"Samsung is dedicated to our SOHO customers by providing superior printers that meet their needs," said Jay Shears, director of office automation, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. "The ML - 2851ND delivers workhorse performance and reliable printing solutions not often seen in small network printers."

Samsung's new ML - 2851ND monochrome laser printer can be found from now on at Samsung's retail partners and has a MSRP of $329.99, which is a relatively OK price tag for such an item, especially in terms of mean suggested retail prices (in other words, chances are that you'll find this thing for under $300 at certain retailers).

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
