It's basically a motion detector that beeps and sends alerts to your phone

Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of everything your child is doing, especially if you have a demanding job or guests. Many a mother left their sleeping kid for a few minutes to go to the bathroom or answer a phone call, only to return and find that their offspring had wandered off.

The Sammy Screamer seeks to provide such parents with a way of keeping tabs on their children from different rooms, or even farther off.

The name sounds a bit eerie, like something that screams in your ear, straight out of a horror movie. Fortunately, that's not how it works in real life.

The Sammy Screamer is a small motion sensor that beeps when it senses movement and also sends alerts to your smartphone app.

The app can also be used to adjust the volume of the beep, as well as the sensitivity of the sensor.

Bluetooth 4.0 technology is employed to establish and maintain the device-to-phone link, and has a range of 50 meters / 164 feet.

What's more, the small device has a magnetic back (can be slapped to a fridge or any other metal surface). Not only that, but the alarm can be customized for other things as well.

So how can the item be used? For instance, you can stick it to the fridge to ward off midnight snacks, place it on a door handle to get notices when somebody leaves, attach it to your baby stroller.

That last one might be the most important, because it will tell you when the baby wakes up, so as long as you don't get phone alerts, you can breathe easy knowing you're not neglecting your child.

There are other potential uses as well, like a means to ward off intruders on your property (put it under your gate), put it on your bike, somewhere out of sigh, to get an alert in case a thief tries to steal it.

Sammy Screamer is the first invention from London-based startup BleepBleeps, and will eventually be joined by the Tony Tempa digital ear thermometer, the Cecil G GPS bracelet, the Ultra Stan ultrasound pregnancy scanner, and the Master Bates fertility tester. Clearly, the company is focusing on child rearing.
