Australian actor says he isn’t leaving anywhere just yet

Even before “Terminator: Salvation” came out, the world knew of Sam Worthington’s existence, even if few were actually those who could say a couple of words on his previous work. However, once the much-anticipated movie came out, it seemed that the name of the Australian actor, virtually unknown until then, was on everybody’s lips. And this is not the end, as the world will be seeing more of him, Esquire magazine says.

Worthington sat down with the famous magazine for a lengthy interview on his plans for the future, on details of how fame changed him (if at all), and how he intends to stay ahead of the game. Having risked everything he had for a shot as an actor in Hollywood, Worthington immediately distances himself as a man with a very clear purpose and he’s not about to give up the fight without first giving it all his best. Right now, he’s riding the wave, but he’ll still be here tomorrow even if the media forgot his name overnight, Sam says.

Another thing that one immediately notes about the irresistibly charming 33-year-old star is his incredibly foul mouth. Yet he’s not talking like that because he wishes to offend or simply can’t control himself; it’s like his determination gets the best of him and then transpires into verbal aggressiveness. Instead of feeling offended, fans should perhaps just let this little detail slide and prepare for a true Worthington “feast,” starting with Cameron’s much-hyped, way-overdue “Avatar,” where Sam plays the lead.

“Hopefully I’m bringing more complexity to [the characters] than Jean-Claude Van Damme does. No offense to the dude. Oh, isn’t it cool? It’s so cool being an actor! It’s so cool having my face on a bus. That’s bull[expletive]. I hate people like that. Aussie actors take fifteen hours to get to America – we ain’t going to waste our [expletive]ing time and money. And that means we’re not going to waste their time. I said to Christian [Bale]... I’m waiting for my tirades to come out. Or me on the toilet. Either way, it’s going to be on YouTube.” Worthington tells Esquire of his experience in Hollywood so far.

The truth is, foul language or no foul language, critics have noticed Worthington and the kind of work he can do as early as “Terminator: Salvation,” and this was a movie that clearly was not supposed to put him at an advantage. Starring opposite one of the most dedicated and talented actors of our times, as critics say of Christian Bale, Worthington not only managed to steal his thunder: he stole the entire movie. As such, seeing him in “Avatar” has just become the hottest thing to do this December, when it drops in theaters.

“I’ll do whatever you need me to do to sell your [expletive]ing movie.” Worthington told James Cameron before being signed for “Avatar.” “I’ll call my first kid [expletive]ing Avatar if you want me to, if that helps you sell it.” the actor said. As fans can see from the rest of the interview – here – Sam Worthington is already selling it.
