14 DAY TRIAL // Sami Hayek, the brother of screen siren Salma Hayek, has been involved in a very serious car crash in Los Angeles, on Sunset Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department confirms for People magazine. Two people have been injured and one has died as a result of the crash.
Police are yet to determine the exact cause of the crash, but the first lead they’re investigating is the possibility that Hayek was speeding, so he lost control over his sportscar and smashed into incoming traffic.
“Sami Hayek, 40, was driving eastbound in his 2006 Ford GT along a windy stretch between the Playboy Mansion and UCLA around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday when he lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck, according to an LAPD statement,” the celebrity publication says.
Three people in total were involved in the crash, with Hayek and the driver of the pickup suffering non life-threatening injuries. The passenger in Hayek’s car, a 43-year-old man from Mexico, has died as a result of the injuries sustained: blunt force trauma, police say.
The actress’ brother has been rushed to the hospital with a cut to the head and several broken ribs, while the other driver broke a foot and complained of pain in other parts of the body. The identity of the man who died has not been made public.
“Hayek's car was a limited-production, approximately 600 horsepower street-legal race car with a top speed electronically limited to 205 mph. Police say they're looking for witnesses, and it's too early to say what caused the crash or how fast Hayek may have been going,” People magazine writes.
The Daily Mail reports that Hayek is now at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical center in stable condition. It also has photos of the wreckage, showing that the impact to his Ford was to the side of the passenger. Both cars were totaled in the crash.
Unlike Salma, who made a career in movies, Sami works as a designer and has his own studio in the City of Angels. He first started studies in business administration but dropped out when he realized he wanted to do something more creative in life, like painting, sculpting or designing.
He eventually settled for designing and, as per the same publication, he’s had some success with it, as his resume boasts contracts for the likes of Brad Pitt.
No word yet on the exact condition of the other victim in the crash, the driver of the pickup truck.
