Lumia smartphones, the Windows Phone-based series of devices that Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia started selling a couple of years ago, have seen great traction in the company’s homeland market, with over one million units sold to date.

Of course, the figure might not seem impressive at all when compared to the tens of millions of devices that other vendors have been shipping all around the world, but it is when considering the fact that there are only 5.4 million people in Finland.

With over one million Lumias sold, it would mean that roughly one in five people in Finland have bought such a device since they started arriving on shelves.

For those out of the loop, we should note that this happened back in February 2012 with the Nokia Lumia 800, which was followed by Lumia 710 the same month. Nokia Lumia 610 and Lumia 900 were made available in the country a few months after that, as esphoneblog notes.

In November 2012, Nokia launched the Windows Phone 8-based Lumia 920 in the country, followed by Lumia 820, 620, 720, and 520 in the first half of 2013. The company brought the Lumia 925 to the country in August last year, with Lumia 1020 released there one month later.

A post on the Finnish Nokia Conversations blog also mentions that Lumia 625 landed in the country in September 2013, and that Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 were released there in December 2013.

As of this month, Finnish users can also purchase the Nokia Lumia 1320, the mid-range 6-inch smartphone that Nokia has unveiled to the world in October last year alongside the flagship Lumia 1520.

Undoubtedly, reaching sales of one million Lumia devices in Finland is a great achievement for Nokia, especially with the increased interest that users in other markets out there are also showing on these devices.

At the moment, Nokia Lumia 520 is the most popular Windows Phone smartphone out there, mainly courtesy of its low price tag, though it might not be too long before other devices in the family catch up with it.

After all, Nokia did strive to pack the latest models with some of the latest industry advancements out there. Lumia 1520, for example, sports one of the latest Snapdragon 800 processors, 2GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel camera on the back, and a 6-inch full HD touchscreen display.

Soon, Nokia will become part of Microsoft, and it remains to be seen what new devices they have in store for their users and what novelties they will have to offer, so stay tuned.
