In addition to releasing a new iTunes beta to developers this week, Apple has posted a new version of Safari with some bug fixes and a bunch of instructions for areas that require testing.

According to those familiar with the build, “Safari 5.1.2 fixes issues where PDFs in frames were not displayed in the browser.”

Apple asks of developers to “Please test this build with websites that display PDF documents inline such as banks and document management systems.”

The new Safari 5.1.2 beta is open only to registered Apple devs. There are three versions to download - one for OS X Lion, one for Snow Leopard, and another for Windows PC.

As mentioned above, the release notes also reveal that developers should consider testing printing, mouse, and keyboard interactions with the new Safari.

For Inline PDF Support, Apple asks devs: “Please test this build with websites that display PDF documents inline such as banks and document management systems. Please also test saving and using context menus with PDFs in frames.”

For Plug-Ins: “Please test mouse and keyboard interaction in plug-ins with input fields. Printing; Please test printing web pages. Printing web pages to PDF is sufficient. Known Issues.”

Programmers are being notified of a known issue with some Safari Extensions that use the ‘beforeload’ event which can cause the browser to crash.

A couple of known limitations are listed as well, one of which has devs using an uninstaller to get rid of this preview version of Safari from their test Mac. The uninstaller is located at the Mac Dev Center or the Safari Dev Center.

Windows users can uninstall the app in a more traditional way, by visiting the Control Panel and select removing the app, as they would with any program.
