San Jose, California-based OCZ Technology has just announced the launch of its latest line of affordable, Flash-based Solid State Drives, designed to provide mainstream users with a choice for a high-performance storage solution that takes advantage of the increasingly popular NAND flash technology. The new series, dubbed OCZ Solid 2, comes with a SATA II interface and boasts an MLC technology that is said to have enabled the development of a more affordable alternative to all those pricey Solid State Drives currently available on the market.

“While solid state drives offer exceptional performance, the high cost of ownership has been a barrier for many consumers,” commented Eugene Chang, vice president of product development at the OCZ Technology Group. “It has always been our goal to make quality SSD drives affordable to the complete range of customers. By making use of the proven Indilinx controller coupled new flash technology, OCZ is excited to introduce the Solid 2 that delivers increased reliability and performance over competing traditional and solid state solutions at a price point that is truly within reach of mainstream consumers.”

OCZ's new Solid 2 line of Solid State Drives will be available in capacities of 60GB and 128GB and boasts a performance of 125MB/s and 80MB/s read/write speed for the former version, while the latter will deliver speeds of 125MB/s and 100MB/s for read and write, respectively. Additional features include a 2.5-inch slim design, RAID support, low-power consumption and an MTBF of 1.5 million hours.

Although the company didn't provide any specific details regarding the pricing and availability of its latest series of affordable SSDs, users should be able to upgrade their storage solution to one of these drives in the near future, thus getting their hands on an SSD that is backed by a 3-year warranty.
