When we talk about super-fast external and/or portable storage devices, we usually mean USB 3.0-enabled flash drives, hard disk drives or solid-state drives.
Akitio has just released something that will trump all of those things.
Called Neutrino Thunderbolt Edition, it is a solid-state drive equipped with a Thunderbolt connector.
Because of that connector, it can attain a transfer rate of 464 MB/s, beyond that of even many SATA 6.0 Gbps drives, never mind USB 3.0 ones.
Truth be told, it isn't the first of its kind. There was a 120 GB drive before, so the new one just adds the 256 GB option to the line.
Neutrino ships with a thunderbolt cable and will eventually become available for order through amazon.com and gamejava.com. Only the 120 GB models are listed right now, and even those are unavailable.
