14 DAY TRIAL // When Anna Nicole Smith was living, she was by far the greatest drama queen that walked this earth. Many of those who knew her can testify to that - whatever she did, she did it in such a way as to attract as much media attention as possible and, in most cases, she succeeded. Then again, now that she is no longer with us, Anna's case continues to interest us to a great extent.
Why, we ask? It's not as if she was an extremely talented actress or a celebrity on her own merit! Saying that would mean deceiving ourselves into believing exactly the opposite of reality. Instead, Anna was a wonderful human being (so say those who met her) and the embodiment of every person's secret dream: a woman who rose from the gutter and became a superstar. She married into money, by saying her second 'I Do' to a man who could easily have been her grandfather. She claimed she loved him until his final hour, thirteen months after their wedding. Her entire life was nothing but a rollercoaster ride but, despite the way it was heavily mediated, there still are many little things the public did not have access to.
One of those things is Mark 'Hollywood' Hatten's story, the man whom Anna dated for almost two years and who claims they were even engaged. In the light of recent events (Hatten petitioning for a DNA paternity test for Dannielynn Hope and his statements according to which Howard K. Stern was somehow involved in Anna's death), I say we should listen to what the man has to say, especially as it all comes straight from him and not via a third party.
Mark is currently incarcerated in a California prison, where he is serving the last months of a seven-year sentence. He was accused of making terrorist threats, assault with a deadly weapon and stalking Anna Nicole Smith, all of which happened after she broke off their relationship. He was cleared of all charges, save two, but he was still sent to prison. Softpedia managed to make a brief contact with him and we are now giving you the whole story... such as it is.
In letters sent exclusively to us, Mark says that the love affair he had with Anna Nicole Smith was greatly underestimated in the media at the time of his arrest, mainly because of Howard K. Stern's 'evil plan'. Says Mark: 'I first met Anna Nicole Smith in early January 2000, when my baby sister, Jackie Hatten, put me on the phone with Anna Nicole, for a blind date! Our relationship lasted a little over two years and we had 2 miscarriages in that time period'. He also claims that they planned to marry and start a family but Stern's schemes demolished Anna's confidence and, ultimately, hope - she was left with no other choice than to do as she was bid and eliminate Mark from her life. 'Once Howard convinced Anna Nicole to turn against me, then her livein housekeeper Kim Walthers and her son went along with her story! (employee & son - go figure?). I was indeed the greatest protector of my then girlfriend Anna Nicole Smith, her son Daniel and all of her interest. I supported Anna Nicole emotionally, physically and financially!', he says of the relationship he had with the woman to whom he still refers to as 'my soulmate'.
But what's more interesting than this conspiracy theory that sent him to jail and ruined his life (because that's what he's trying to tell us) are two other claims that he's making, in the hope that he will be given equal opportunity to stand by them, just like Stern and Larry Birkhead (the two other potential fathers of Anna Nicole's child): number one, that he's the father of Dannielynn Hope (Anna Nicole's infant daughter) by means of artificial insemination and that Howard K. Stern (Smith's lawyer and lover) had an important part to play in both Anna and Daniel's death.
On the first count, this is what Mark had to tell us: 'Anna Nicole called a private Doctor [after the miscarriages, because she desperately wanted to have a child] and we both gave blood, urine & saliva samples. I also gave a "sperm sample*" that I was told by both Anna Nicole Smith and the Doctor would indeed be frozen for future use! (to impregnate Anna Nicole Smith only*). I am convinced that if artificial insemination was the means of conception of Dannielynn Hope, then I am indeed her biological father!'. For this purpose, he has already submitted a petition for a DNA test, as we already reported last week.
In what concerns Stern, Mark formulates no clear accusations, although he does hint that he will do so in the future. After his release from prison this year (or maybe sooner than that), Mark will release his autobiography, titled 'Bad-Ass Hollywood Bad Boy: Sex, Drugs & Anna Nicole', in which he plans to show the world just how low Stern scooped in order to get his hands on the Playmate's money. Plus, Mark says he has concrete evidence that the attorney tried to kill him by injecting him with morphine until he went into a coma (check out the telephone interview below and the press release where he talks about the alleged attempted murder). Until then, meaning the moment when he would blow Stern's cover, we have only a couple of words coming straight from Mark, alluding at the fact that Stern did nothing to help her, even when he saw what had become of her. According to Mark, Anna used to take 'massive amounts of "prescription drugs, painkillers"' to which 'she was indeed addicted' even when they were dating.
But: 'I know in my heart that Howard K. Stern had the power and resources to save Anna Nicole Smith's life, yet stood by and let her destroy herself after her son Daniel's tragic, sudden and ever so suspicious death!!! (I say it goes to motive - right?). Howard K. Stern admitted to finding Anna Nicole Smith face down in her swimming pool unconscious and under the influence, yet this so called life partner and best friend didn't even bother to get sweet Anna Nicole professional help, by people that could have saved her life and cured her depression and habitual drug use. [...] The killer of Daniel Wayne and his beautiful mother will be brought to justice in Hell!!!'
Until Mark will get to tell his story about Stern and about the many ways he used to exploit Anna, there is still one question pending: what will he do if the DNA test proves that he is indeed Dannielynn's biological father? First off, he will take the child into his home, drop the case Anna has been fighting for years to win (with her late husband's family - for his estate) and then raise Danni like a normal parent, teaching her to cherish the simple things in life. 'If in fact I am proven to be the biological father of Dannielynn Hope, I am OFFICIALLY announcing to drop the "BIGGEST PROBATE CASE IN HISTORY", yeah the one that ruined Anna Nicole and her son Daniel's life!!! I don't need the "BLOOD MONEY" nor do I want any part of the evil attached to it! (Marshall vs. Marshall). I will teach Dannielynn about the pure simple things in life... "It's not a matter of how big your house is that matters, it's how much love you have inside it that counts"', Mark tells us.
This is Mark's story, as he told it to us in letters. While we're still on the subject, I imagine we should also mention another thing that is on his mind: a sex tape that he and Anna Nicole made in 2000 and which is now missing, having presumably been stolen from her Bahamian residence in the days following her death. 'This tape was made by Mark "Hollywood" Hatten and his then fianc�e Ms. Anna Nicole Smith... Anna Nicole was in possession of said tape at the time of her death! The tape is clearly labeled: "MARK & ANNA 2000 *BEDROOM SCENES (Just Married)* SWIMMING POOL DREAMS"', Mark says, refusing to assume the responsibility for its future release.
'I assume NO liability or responsibility for the black market release of this HARDCORE EXPLICIT WORDS/SEX ACTS TAPE, sexual acts performed by both Anna Nicole Smith and her then fianc� Mark "Hollywood" Hatten. This tape was made for our personal entertainment and super thrills... [...] I contend that it may have been accidentally lost or stolen, when the house was ransacked in the Bahamas!', Hatten explains.
If true, Mark's story could shed new light into many of the things that bugged us about Anna Nicole's life (and death) and, truth be told, there is no reason why it shouldn't. Or, if that is too hard for you to believe, think of all this in terms of 'anyone is innocent until proven guilty'. Considering that Anna's entire life seems ripped off some soapy novel or daytime drama, we might as well listen to the man who spent two years of his life with her, sharing the same roof, table and bed. Well, I imagine we will soon find out more about this... Mark is set to unmask Stern and to reveal all that he (Stern) wanted the public not to know about him and Anna. "HOWARD K. STERN TRIED TO MURDER ME WITH MORPHINE SULPHATE TABS"
MARCH 25, 2007, COALINGA, CA. These words are among the harsh accusations made by Mark "Hollywood" Hatten in a taped interview he gave from Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga, Ca. on March 11, 2007. Hatten, who is currently incarcerated, spoke from lockup to Tim Burns of Mark Hatten Management and described the events of Mothers Day 2000, when he awoke from an intentional drug overdose administered to him by Howard K. Stern. "I died for three days and woke in a tub of ice," Mark said. According to Mark Hatten, Stern gave him 2 morphine sulphate tablets while telling Mark they were aspirin. Hatten and Anna Nicole had both gotten tattoos three to four days before Mother's Day 2000. Mark, while in a lot of pain from his Angel tattoo, was recovering at the house he shared with Smith and her son Daniel when Howard K. Stern gave him the drugs and misled him about what they were.
Hatten believes he was in a drug-induced coma for at least three days during which time Stern continued to give him injections. Mark said, " Daniel Wayne told me later that Howard kept giving me "medicine" while I was out of it. Anna nursed me back to health."
In a letter received by Tim Burns, Hatten continues to accuse Howard K. Stern of attempted murder. "Howard is a sick, sadistic, jealous control freak and predator," Mark "Hollywood" Hatten writes. Mark Hatten believes he is in state prison as a direct result of Howard K. Stern and the "wicked lies" he told to remove Mark from Anna Nicole Smith's life. In a copy of Hatten's Official Statement, being released by www.news.softpedia.com Monday, March 27, 2007, Mark tells the world that he believes the potential gain of the billion dollar fortune currently in a Texas Probate Court, was the motivation to send him to prison.
Hatten is scheduled to be released from prison on December 24, 2007. Because Mark wants the world to know," Howard K. Not even the bars of Pleasant Valley State Prison can silence the heartfelt words of this man that says, "I guess I still Love Anna Nicole and God knows I always will."
