SEGA of America has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the company which handles media and the Internet for the sporting franchise, and the Major League Baseball Players Association in order to create and maintain a free-to-play sports simulation called MLB Manager Online.

The game is set to allow would-be virtual baseball team managers the chance to use more than 900 real life players from all the big teams in the United States, with full stats included, alongside their character profiles and past playing records.

Managers can create their best virtual team and play against their friends trying to reach the World Champions Tournament of baseball.

Players who are interested in MLB Manager Online can use a PC or Mac equipped with an Internet browser and running Adobe Flash Player.

The game is set to launch in March 2011, when the new baseball season is set to start.

The game will be completely free to play and SEGA has not so far mentioned anything about micro transactions.

Haruki Satomi, who is the vice president of the Digital Business division at SEGA of America, has stated when the announcement was made, “MLB Manager Online represents an important step forward in SEGA’s goal of expanding into the digital gaming space and providing fans with exciting new ways to enjoy their favorite sport. We are thrilled to offer them free access to a fully licensed and engaging online baseball experience.”

Alex Pigeon, who is a vice president at MLBAM, has also said, “SEGA is a respected publisher in the games space, and we are excited to partner with them in their first foray into the realm of a full-scale browser and interactive media sports game in these territories. Sega’s interactive media MLB-focused game will provide MLB fans with an exciting platform via which they can enjoy America’s national pastime.”
