SAPPHIRE Technology announced a few days ago the introduction of a new graphics card, the SAPPHIRE ATOMIC HD 4870 X2. The solution, based on AMD's HD 4870 X2 GPU, comes as an exclusive dual GPU card, which is water cooled. The new SAPPHIRE ATOMIC HD 4870 X2 packs on a single PCI-Express card two complete HD 4870 graphics systems connected by an on-board PCI Express Gen 2 bridge chip.

The fresh SAPPHIRE solution features 2GB of GDDR5, each GPU having its own 1GB on-board memory. The frequency of each core is set at 800MHz for this model, also including 2x800 stream processors. The memory clock speed has been set at 1000MHz, and the card features a 512-bit memory interface. The card also has DirectX 10.1 capabilities, ShaderModel 4.1, and includes ATI Avivo Software Feature.

Besides being a factory overclocked solution, the SAPPHIRE ATOMIC HD 4870 X2 arrives with a specially designed cooling system. We're talking here a full cover liquid cooling system developed for the card by the famous OEM cooling expert Asetek. The cooling system keeps the temperature low on both GPUs, while also cooling the memory, the bridge chip and all the power elements.

When it comes to connectivity, the new SAPPHIRE ATOMIC HD 4870 X2 graphics card sports two Dual Link DVI outputs complemented by TV-Out and VGA & HDMI via adapters. The maximum resolution rises up to 2560x1600 on dual-link DVI connectivity, and up to 1024 x 768 on TV out port. The new graphics solution is shipped bundled with a CCL UV lamp and Sapphire USB memory stick with drivers. According to the news on the web, the card is expected to hit the market on December 18th at a MSRP of $649.
