Korean semiconductor and electronics giant Samsung has recently announced the Chronos Series 7 Laptop with 17” screen. Today we found out the prices and availability for the US on Samsung's own official website.

The Chronos 7 Series is powered by Intel’s Ivy Bridge based Core i7-3615QM processor with a 2300 MHz frequency and turbo options up to 3.3 GHz when only one thread needs attention, and 3.2 Ghz when two threads are competing for the CPU’s resources.

The top performance turbo setting is 3.1 GHz when three or more threads need the best performance it can achieve, but the Core i7-3615QM can also clock down to 1200 MHz to save power and service more mundane tasks as watching a movie or reading emails.

Intel’s chip is mounted into a BGA1224 package and is manufactured in 22 nm technology. It comes with 4 cores able to handle threads at the same time, using HyperThreading technology and comes equipped with 6 megabytes of Level 3 cache.

The dual channel integrated memory controller (IMC) is able to handle memory speeds up to DDR3-1600 and the HD4000 integrated graphics processing unit (iGPU) will clock between 650 Mhz and 1200 MHz.

All this comes with a maximum TDP of 45 watts.

The 3D part is well taken care of by Nvidia’s new, Kepler based, GK107 GPU with two SMX blocks having 192 shaders each for a total or 384 shader cores. The GPU frequency can be up to 850 MHz, and the 2GB of GDDR3 memory works on a 128-bit BUS.

The high quality display has a brightness of 300 nits and a FullHD resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.

The storage area is able to offer up to 1TB capacity, accelerated with 8GB or ExpressCache NAND.

Coming with JBL speakers with a mini-subwoofer and a 1.3 MP webcam, a wireless N internal adapter, Intel’s WiDi and up to 8 hours of battery, we can definitely say that the Chronos Series 7 is well-endowed.

Rich on the connectivity side, the Series 7 ships with four USB connectors, out of which two are USB 3.0.

There is also a 4 in 1 card reader, HDMI, dual audio jacks, BGA , Gigabit LAN, Bluetooths 4.0 and a nice slot-loading DVD-Writer.

All this ships with Microsoft’s Windows Home Premium 64 Bit edition for 1,499 USD. That would be around 1,150 EUR for the European buyers.
