This is what the sound of millions of hearts collectively breaking must be like: Ryan Gosling has announced he’s taking a break from acting. At least for a while, he won’t be doing any more lead-actor work.

Ryan will be seen next in “A Place Beyond the Pines” and, in a new interview with the AP / Huffington Post to promote it, he stresses how he’s totally uncomfortable doing lead-actor work (as opposed to character acting), so he’s just taking some time off.

“I’ve been doing it too much. I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it,” he says.

He adds that he believes his own fans must also need a break from him. No, just no.

“And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does,” he says.

In the same interview, Gosling talks about wanting to do this acting thing on his own terms, about how he still can’t explain if he has a method of approaching it or not, and about the new movie.

If you’re a fan, you have no excuse for not reading it in full here.
